Karfas

Karfas is the main beach of a settlement of Chios with the same name, located 6 km south of Chios city. The name probably comes from the Homeric word "karfaleos", which means dry. In reality, Karfas is full of life (not "dry" at all), as it is one of the most touristic places of the island.

Karfas has a long coast with fine, golden sand. The water is warm, shallow and calm without any trace of seaweeds or pebbles, even at a great distance from the shore. At the beach you can find umbrellas, sun-beds and a lifeguard at your service. You may also try water sports (jet ski, inflatable banana and roll rides) or just relax sunbathing.

Karfas area is fairly organized so it attracts many tourists during the summer season. You can find hotels, rooms to let, cafes, bars, restaurants, mini-markets and car rental agencies here. Although it is one of the most popular beaches in Chios, the purity and quality of the environment is not compromised.
