Sidirounta

Sidirounta (also called Siderounta) is a village of north-west Chios, located 37 kilometers away from the city. It is built at the top of a cliff, so you can see the west coast of Chios island from the village.

It is a traditional and graphical village, as all the houses are made of stone. The church of saint George (Agios Gheorgios) is located at the center of Siderounta.

The name (Sidirounta) is related to iron (sidiros). The village was probably named this way because there were plenty of iron-stones in the area and all the houses were built of them.

From Sidirounta you may enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets, especially during summer time.

There are some beaches not far from Sidirounta like Makria Ammos, Tigani, Metochi, Papalias, Gerita, Prastia.
